Front Jacking Point Support – Volvo 700/900 Series
Specific Characteristics (Front)
The front jacking point support:
- is located directly behind the front wheel, integrated into the side sill
- is generally subjected to higher loads than the rear support due to engine weight
- features a U-shaped profile, adapted to the front sill structure
Function (Front)
The front jacking point support serves a critical structural role:
- carries a significant portion of the engine and chassis load
- is designed to withstand high point loads and torsional forces
- ensures stable and correct positioning of the original Volvo jack
Vulnerabilities and Wear
This area is particularly prone to:
- road spray, dirt, and moisture from the front wheel
- internal corrosion within the hollow sill
- deformation caused by improper jacking
As a result, the front jacking point supports are often the first to deteriorate.
Repair and Replacement
When replacing the jacking point support:
- Completely remove all corroded material
- Accurately position the new support (critical for proper jack fitment)
- Fully weld the component in place (spot welds and seam welds where required)
- Apply internal protection:
- zinc coating or epoxy primer
- finish with cavity wax
